City commuters, visitors and residents have snapped up nearly 30,000 pocket information guides as part of the force’s Christmas publicity campaign – with a week of the crime prevention and safety campaign still to come. Officers have been joined by police support staff volunteers to help distribute leaflets at busy mainline train and tube stations and shopping areas throughout the City and have been delighted at the public’s response. After a busy two-hour stint at Cannon Street station, one of the volunteers who helped to hand out pocket guides and flyers said: “Having had my mobile phone stolen from my handbag, when the opportunity arose, I really wanted to prevent others from becoming the victims of crime. Although many of the commuters were in a rush to get to work, the cards went like hot cakes and at one point people were even queuing to take them.”The force’s Public Relations Manager, Tracey Woods, who devised the campaign said: “Our campaign appears to have struck a chord throughout the City. We’ve had really positive feedback from the public as well as amazing support from organisations in the Square Mile who have helped us to get the campaign messages across. We’ve had posters on display at Moorgate, Bank and Liverpool Street Stations as well as on hoardings across the City, campaign messages on T-shirts, police vehicles and black cabs and to back this up we’ve distributed nearly 14,000 flyers to individuals, organisations and businesses across the Square Mile. “We would like to say a very big ‘thank-you’ to everyone who is supporting the campaign and helping us to spread the word.”
